Neurons Branding & Iconography

ISSUE

20Twenty Productions, a Community Interest Company, received funding for the development of a creative platform to support young people initially in East Cambridgeshire and Fenland. Having proven the concept they were looking to develop strong branding to appeal to young children, adults and educators and a website to host their activities and membership login to Neurons.

APPROACH

We conducted a detailed Discovery Day with the senior team focussing on messaging for the target audience in terms of those who will use Neurons, those who will pay for Neurons and those who may refer or influence people to use Neurons. 

Once the persona work and messaging was complete we worked on creative branding that would resonate with the target audiences, reflected the fun and creativity of Neurons and work across print, digital and potentially be translated into merchandise.

The initial concepts were subject to focus group testing with the target audience to sense check the colours, style and icons. 

Neurons now has a strong identity, with characters for each of the creative activities categories and a suite of icons that support this branding.

OUTCOME

Neurons now has a strong identity, with characters for each of the creative activities categories and a suite of icons that support this branding. We built on the strong colours of purple and orange that was a key part of the initial branding and produced a mood board of options for a refresh.

From this initial concept we were able to develop characters and iconography to help users understand where they were within the site and the kind of activities they would be expected to carry out. 

As the marketing campaigns were a combination of digital and large and small scale print all the design was tested to ensure that it worked across all media and sizes.

This has allowed them to increase their appeal to their primary target audience.

We were over the moon with the final neurons branding design. Natalie and Mark were very thorough in their approach including running a focus group with some of our young fans which was most enjoyable. This new brand has enabled us to establish the organisation at the next level and reach out to more schools and individuals with a strong yet friendly brand
